Bonobos
Pan Paniscus or better known by Bonobos together with the chimpanzees are the closest living relatives to humans, both of these species share 98.7% of their DNA with humans. In the other hand compared with chimpanzees, Bonobos groups are usually more peaceful and are led by females instead of males. The specie maintain relationships and often solve conflicts through sex.
In appearance bonobos are smaller, leaner and darker than chimpanzees. Before being recognized as a different specie in 1929, Bonobos were known as Pygmy Chimpanzee
Wild Bonobos can only be found in the South forests of the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Due the remote nature of the Bonobo habitat, most of the knowledge of this animal habitat remains unknown. Including the range of it's geographic location and habitat.
Bonobos are omnivorous animals. Most of their diet is based on fruits, bark, stems, roots and honey among others. This specie is mostly vegetarian, but less
occasionally they hunt for small mammal like flying squirrels or duikers.
These specie, as many of the ones that lives near the Bonobos habitat are being affected by human interaction. Due civil unrest and increasing poverty forest near the bonobo habitat has been poached and deforested. Engendering this species environment.
Since the total population of the bonobo is largely unknown, only assumptions can be made. Even though, is has likely been declining for the last three decades according to scientists. Scientists assume,it will continue to decline due the low reproductive rate of bonobos and the increasing the threats against these.
